Old Doha Port Triathlon 2023: A Triumphant Return

After a season hiatus, the Qatar Triathlon Federation made a triumphant return to the sporting scene with the Old Doha Port Triathlon on November 3, 2023, marking the start of the 2023/2024 triathlon season.
The Old Doha Port Triathlon event, hosted at the Grand Terminal Area stands as a testament to the resilience and determination of the organizing team and the participants. On the day leading up to the event, unpredictable weather conditions challenged the race operations team that they had to reestablish and labor overnight to ensure a venue that met the standards of the event. Their unwavering commitment paid off as the Old Doha Port Triathlon was executed seamlessly.
With over 180 participants taking on the demanding Sprint Distance Triathlon, and more than 50 young talents competing in the Youth Aquathlon event, the Old Doha Port Triathlon showcased its appeal on a regional scale. In addition to our locals and expat atletes, competitors from neighboring countries, including Kuwait and Bahrain an international flavor to this event.
The Old Doha Port's unique setting, with traditional dhows lining beside the swim start and the picturesque MINA Park, provided a stunning backdrop for the pontoon swim. The technically challenging four-lap draft-legal road bike segment and the three laps of the running track added to the thrill. The scenic West Bay, silhouetted against the horizon, graced the event with a splendid finish line and ceremony backdrop. The audience swelled to hundreds of enthusiastic spectators who passionately cheered on the athletes as they pushed their limits.
The success of this event, following the Aquathlon in October co-organized with QTRI club, solidified the Old Doha Port's status as a premier venue for hosting future local, regional, and even international multisport events.
